Fletcher Stevenson who was recently selected to represent the south west in the U14 boys water polo travelled to Walsall to take part in the ASA Junior Inter Regional Water Polo Championships. The south west team put in a fantastic performance and were placed 3rd. For full report click on the link below.
Melody Roberts recently attended an ASA SW training session at Bournemouth which was open to swimmers in the 11/12 year age group who had qualified for the ASA SW Regional Championships earlier in the year. The day started on poolside at 7.am and finished at 5.00pm and included 2 x 1.5hr pool sessions, land training and nutrition and dietary advice.

Well done to the swimmers who competed in the CCASA Development Gala.There were some excellent performances from Eseld O’neill, Louis Trenerry and Charlotte Bell all winning medals. Also competing was Erin Burt, Libby Kingston, Daisy Rixon, Olivia Cockle and Sofia Hosking, who all performed extremely well.

Tyler Kearey, Frank Adams and Fletcher Stevenson travelled to the Pyramids Leisure Centre in Exeter for the recent ASA SW under 14 water polo trials. Tyler and Fletcher have been selected for the regional squad of 15 players, from the 40 boys attending. Frank impressed the selectors with his fine goalkeeping skills, had excellent feedback and is still young enough to try again next year.

Penzance under 16 water polo team took on an experienced Exeter side at their home venue on Sunday. Exeter finally won 16-12, but it was a close game throughout. Swimmers from Penzance Swimming Association & Water Polo Club recently travelled to Bodmin to take part in their annual Open Meet. With such a high number of entries the gala was spread over three sessions rather than the usual two. Medals were awarded to the top six in each age group. There were some great performances by the Penzance swimmers with Wesley Eddy, Molly Haines, Holly Prodger, Aaron Stevens and Shannon O’Connell all excelling in their breaststroke events to take gold medals. Jasmine Edwards won gold in the 50m backstroke and 50 freestyle, Lily Durrant gold in the 50m butterfly and Wesley Eddy a further two golds in the 50m backstroke and the 50m butterfly.
Other medal winners were Freya Prodger, Dylan Cole, Lilly Hardy, Melody Roberts, Thomas Morice, Harris Eddy, Libby Rudge, Jacob Friday, Naomi Rescorla-Brown and Ellis Tonkin. There were some fantastic swims with many swimmers achieving personal best times and gaining qualifying times for future competitions. Also competing from Penzance were Emily Stevens, Ella Chalwin, Iona O’Connell, Ben Friday, Kelsi Perry and Sofia Rescorla-Brown. A ‘Skins Event’ also took place in which the fastest six Individual Medley swimmers competed, with a succession of 50m swims and the slowest swimmer being eliminated each time. Shannon O’Connell put in a superb performance and gained third place.

Congratulations to Shannon O'Connell who has been selected to swim for Cornwall. Shannon will be competing in The British Gas ASA National County Team Championships at Sheffield this weekend and will be swimming the backstroke leg in the girls 14/15 medley relay. We wish Shannon and the Cornish team the best of luck.
Fantastic results were achieved at The Carn Brea & Helston Open Meet - with twenty two swimmers competing and between them winning forty medals it was a very successful gala. Gold medals went to Jasmine Edwards, Wesley Eddy, Fletcher Stevenson, Thomas Morice, Connor Keeler and Shannon O’Connell. Melody Roberts and Wesley Eddy each won six medals. Other medal winners were Lily Durrant, Freya Prodger, Lilly Hardy, Molly Haines, Holly Prodger, Rosie Tonkin, Naomi Rescorla-Brown and Ellis Tonkin. Other swimmers competing, all producing personal best times were Ross Keeler, Murray Stevenson, Emily Rees, Milly Roach, Kelsi Perry, Libby Rudge and Sofia Rescorla-Brown.

The picturesque setting of Carbis Bay proved to be an idyllic backdrop on a successful day for Penzance Swimming Club on Saturday. Fifteen swimmers of different ages competed in a number of events which was well organised by St Ives Bay Swimming Club. Lilly Hardy, Melody Roberts and Fletcher Stevenson all picked up 1st in their age groups for the 250m. More success came in the keenly contested 500m age categories, Shannon O'Connell picking up a 1st, Tegen Snell 2nd, Kelsey Perry 2nd and Josh Tonkin a 3rd, Iona O'Connell narrowly missing out on the medals. Penzance Masters also proved dominant during the afternoon with Ben May winning the 3000m race with ease and Anthony Stevenson achieving the same in the 1000m. Mark Worledge collected a 2nd in the Masters 1000m, while husband and wife team of Shaun and Trina were delighted to beat their personal bests over the kilometre distance. Good swims for Felicity Middleton and Becky Brooks gained them 2nd and 3rd in their respective events over the punishing 3000m course. The final event of the day, aptly named The Last Man Standing, was another success for Penzance, Fletcher Stevenson picked up a 2nd place in the juniors, and once again Ben May proving unbeatable by brushing aside nearly 20 competitors in the strong senior contest.

Masters swimmers - Sasha Osborne, Stephanie Dymond, Natalie Walker, Tamsin Eddy and Jackie Roberts travelled to Plymouth to take part in The Blue Mile. The swimmers took off from the Mayflower steps in the Barbican and swam a timed mile swim to Plymouth's Tinside lido and back. The Penzance swimmers swam well in good water conditions and completed the event in the following times - Sasha in 21mins, Tamsin in 22 mins, Jackie and Natalie in 24 mins and Steph in 28 mins. The girls really enjoyed the event.
Congratulations to the Cornwall team who won the Senior Men's Water Polo at the South West Inter-Counties Water Polo Championships at Millfield. Those selected from Pz SA & WPC were George Hollis, Ben May, Elliot Murphy and Anthony Stevenson.

Lilly Hardy, Molly Haines, Thomas Morice, Sofia Rescorla-Brown and Naomi Rescorla-Brown competed at the recent Plymouth Leander Open Meet. Everyone swam extremely well, and a bronze medal went to Thomas Morice in the 200m backstroke. All swimmers achieved personal best times. Well done to everybody.

Well done to Oriana Noel who represented the club at the Taunton Deane Open Meet at Weston-super-Mare. Oriana achieved some excellent personal best times and won 7 gold medals and a bronze.
PENZANCE'S FAST FIVE REGIONAL SPRINTERS:
Penzance Swimming Club recently had five swimmers who qualified and competed at the South West Regional Sprint competition, held at the G1 Leisure Centre in Bristol.
The swimmers were required to swim each of the 50 metre sprint disciplines plus a 4 x 1 Individual Medley. Points were awarded for each sprint with a final score presented at the end to give a placing.
Penzance youngsters Melody Roberts and Hollie Prodger were competing for the first time at the Gloucester Sprints following their qualification at the Regional age groups.
The two girls had a fantastic set of sprints in the 11 year old age group and they produced personal best performances.
Harris Eddy, Shannon O'Connell and Connor Keeler have qualified and swam in the Regional Sprints previously.
Harris produced personal best times and finished in 5th position overall in the 12 years age group. He also broke the 30 second barrier for his 50 freestyle and was delighted to clock a 29.6 second swim.
Shannon (14 years) finished in 9th position and was especially pleased with her backstroke performance of 33 seconds.
Connor (14 years) finished in 12th position which ranked him higher than the year before. He had a great 50 metres freestyle and was thrilled to clock a 29.0 to add to other personal best performances. The five swimmers enjoyed a fantastic day of swimming and were a credit to their club.
PENZANCE TEAM GO TO GREAT LENGTHS AT BRISTOL:
A small group of Penzance swimmers travelled to Bristol at the weekend to take part in the inaugural COBexe level one long course meet, in the splendid new 50-metre pool at Hengrove Leisure Centre.
With this the last chance to gain qualifying times for the South West Regional Age Groups, expectations were very high. For some this was their first time swimming in a 50m pool and they all acquitted themselves well with some fantastic personal best times.
The swimmers competing were: Ellis Tonkin, Naomi Rescorla-Brown, Rosie Tonkin, Sara Mazzeo, Melody Roberts and Molly Haines.
