A fantastic team effort with great swimming by Penzance at the recent County Team Relay Gala. Well done everyone!
Tyler Kearey, Fletcher Stevenson and Murray Stevenson have all been selected to attend regional water polo academy training. The sessions are to be held monthly at Millfield School, Barnstaple and Exeter pools over a 6 month period.
This is a good achievement for the Penzance trio, and follows strong performances in December's inter county tournament, where a total of 15 Penzance players featured in the cornwall teams across the age groups.

A total of fifteen Penzance water polo players have recently represented Cornwall, at the south west inter county water polo tournaments held at Millfield School and Exeter Pyramids Centre.
Senior men George Hollis, Tom Foreman, Mawgan Petersen and Anthony Stevenson.
Under 16s male, Tyler Kearey, James Lamborn, Frank Adams, Fletcher Stevenson and Murray Stevenson.
Under 14s mixed, Jazz Collins, Milly Roach, Melody Roberts, Josh Tonkin, Wes Eddy, Tyler Kearey and Murray Stevenson.
Under 12s mixed, Oscar Beckerleg.
All players made considerable contributions to the tournaments, with Cornwall performing well in all age/genders groups entered.
Two years ago only the senior men were able to enter a Cornwall side in the regional events, however now it is encouraging to see that this has rapidly increased to four teams, with confidence of more teams entering next year. Well done Penzance!

Congratulations to Fletcher Stevenson & Connor Keeler who represented Cornwall at the ASA County Team Championships, recently held in Sheffield. Connor competed in the boys 16/17 years 100m backstroke and also swam the backstroke leg in the medley team. Fletcher competed in the boys 14/15 years medley team and the mixed freestyle team. Well done to you both.

Congratulations to Dylan Cole, Jasmine and Rosemary Edwards who recently attended the Cormorants & Dragons Distance Meet held at Bodmin. Jasmine & Rosemary competed in the girls 800m freestyle and Dylan competed in the boys 1500m freestyle and finished in 3rd place in his age group. Well done!

Congratulations to Anthony Stevenson on an outstanding performance in the Yacht Inn Swim. This was a remarkable 13th win for Anthony who first won the race in 1982 when he was 13 years old. Well done Anthony.

Congratulations to everyone who competed in the Yacht Inn Swim. Melody Roberts was the first girl to finish in the Youths race. In the Seniors, Anthony Stevenson finished in 1st place, Jacob Wood 2nd and Kyle Kearey 3rd. Sasha Osborne was the 3rd female to finish, also winning her age group as did Jackie Roberts. Ian James, Nicky Brooks and Tamsin Thomas all placed in the top three of their respective age groups. Well done everyone!

Fletcher Stevenson recently represented the South West boys under 16 water polo team at a national tournament held at Millfield school. The team won their group beating Scotland, Ireland, North West Ravens, and drawing with London Sharks. This placed them in the semi final where they beat the North East to proceed into the tournament final against the North West Tigers. The South West team eventually lost by one goal 11-10 in a very close and competitive match. Therefore finishing with the silver medal with Fletcher contributing well to the teams overall performance.

Well done to the swimmers who competed in Round 2 of the Cornwall & Devon Swimming League, recently held at Plymouth
Congratulations to Melody Roberts who after attending trials at the Pyramids Leisure Centre, Exeter, was selected to represent the South West Girls U16 water polo. The inter-regional tournament was held over 2 days at the Liverpool Aquatics Centre, and included 11 teams from seven regions across England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The South West finished in 5th place.
The South West Regional Summer Championships - Fletcher Stevenson, Harris Eddy, Aaron Stevens, Connor Keeler and Shannon O’Connell qualified to compete in the Youth Championships which were held over three days at the Plymouth Life Centre. Aaron Stevens and Connor Keeler both qualified for finals in which Aaron finished in 9th place in the 50m breaststroke, Connor finished in 6th place in the 200m backstroke and 9th place in the 100m backstroke. Dylan Cole, Jasmine Edwards, Murray Stevenson, Molly Haines, Melody Roberts and Thomas Morice qualified for the Age Group Championships which were held over two weekends, the first at Hengrove Leisure Centre in Bristol and the second weekend at Millfield School in Somerset. The level of competition was of a high standard and all the Penzance swimmers performed exceptionally well and enjoyed the experience of competing against the top swimmers in the South West.

The Newquay Cormorants Open Meet for swimmers aged 9-13 years was recently held at the Bodmin Dragons Leisure Centre. The meet included 50m sprints with finals for the top 6 swimmers, 200m swims in all strokes as well as a 100m Individual Medley. Penzance Swimming Club had 21 swimmers competing who all performed extremely well and achieved some great results. Medal winners were Dominic Butterfield(10yrs) gold 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly, Ethan Hill(11yrs) silver 50m breaststroke, bronze 200m freestyle, Jasmine Edwards(11yrs) gold 200m backstroke, bronze 50m freestyle, Emily Stevens (11yrs) silver 50m breaststroke, Dylan Cole(12yrs) gold 200m butterfly, silver 50m butterfly, Melody Roberts(13yrs) gold 200m freestyle, 200m backstroke, silver 50m butterfly, Molly Haines(13yrs) silver 50m freestyle, bronze 100mIM, 50m breaststroke, Charlotte Bell (13yrs) bronze 50m freestyle, Milly Roach(13yrs) bronze 50m backstroke and Isabella Davy(13yrs) silver 50m breaststroke. Additional trophies were awarded to the finalists in the 50m sprints in which Melody Roberts gained 1st place (50 fly), Molly Haines 2nd (50 free), Isabella Davy 3rd (50 breast), Charlotte Bell 3rd (50 free) and Milly Roach 5th (50 back). Also competing and gaining a number of personal best times were Daisy Rixon, Olivia Cockle, Lucia Davy, Jude Hardy, Marnie Cole, Lily Durrant, Rosemary Edwards, Lilly Hardy, Louis Trenerry, Isabella Stevens, and Iona O’Connell.

Penzance water polo club travelled to St Austell for 2 matches in the 12/u and 16/u age groups. The two teams performed well and thoroughly enjoyed their games. In the 12/u match there was some great play, with strong shots at goal and good defence, resulting in an exciting finish with Penzance eventually winning 7 goals to 6. The 16/u age group showed some great skills in goal keeping, defence and attack, which allowed Penzance to score some fantastic goals and win the game 11 goals to 5. All the children worked hard throughout and displayed good team work. Well done Pz.

Fantastic results for all of our swimmers who competed in the CCASA Championships/Age Groups! Amazing swimming by Dylan who won the boys 12 years 100m butterfly and Melody who won the girls 14 years 200m backstroke. Melody continued her fine form throughout the Championships to win a further five bronze medals, 50m fly, 200m fly, 100m backstroke, 50m free, 400m free. Impressive swimming by Aaron (15 years) earned him a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke, and bronze medals in the 100m & 200m breaststroke & 100m fly. Consistently strong swimming by Connor competing in the 16 years and over earned him bronze medals in the 50m, 100m & 200m backstroke; the excellent swimming continued with Jasmine(12yrs) winning silver in the 200m backstroke, Molly(13yrs) bronze in the 50m fly and Harris(15yrs) bronze in the 50m backstroke. Junior Championship medals for finishing in the top 6 were awarded to Melody, Fletcher, Harris and Aaron, similarly in the Senior Championships, medals were awarded to Connor, Shannon, Naomi and George. Superb swimming by Wesley, Harris, Melody, Murray, Fletcher, Aaron and Connor secured qualifying times for the South West Regional Championships to be held in May. Also competing were Jude, Dominic, Lily, Emily, Lilly, Isabella, Milly, Imogen, Sofia, Kelsi and Katie. The Penzance swimmers all put in a fantastic effort and achieved a total of 90 personal best times between them, with every swimmer achieving at least one. There was strong competition throughout all the age groups and all the swimmers performed extremely well.

Congratulations to Tyler Kearey who after attending trials at Cheltenham was selected to represent the South West under 14s water polo team. The tournament was held at Walsall Gala Baths on the 12th December and included eight teams from seven regions across England, Scotland and Wales. The South West finished in 6th place.

Congratulations to the senior mens team and the U14s team representing Cornwall at the Inter County Water Polo Championships recently held at Millfield. It was the first time in 20 years that the U14s had entered a side. A total of 10 Penzance players travelled with the U14 squad, and all played extremely well against strong sides from Devon, Wiltshire, Dorset, Somerset and Gloucestershire.
Cornwall seniors who were last years trophy holder battled hard against the other counties but came up short to see Wiltshire ending up on top. Penzance provided 7 players in the senior squad.

Congratulations to Tyler Kearey and Fletcher Stevenson who were invited to play for Barnstaple water polo under 14 years in the national age group championships (NAGS) recently held at Manchester Aquatics Centre against the best teams in Great Britain. They both played extremely well in helping the team win 3 of their 5 matches.
The Go For It water polo tournament has begun for 2015/16, with teams competing from Penzance, Newquay, Barnstaple, Devonport and Okehampton. Penzance have made a good start with 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. Well done to the Penzance team, Ben May, Anthony Stevenson, Neil Eddy, Tom Foreman, George Hollis, Zack Roberts, Mawgan Osborne, Tyler Kearey, Fletcher Stevenson and Toby Osborne.

Congratulations to Connor Keeler and Shannon O'Connell and the Cornwall team who competed at the Inter-County Team Championships at Sheffield on Sunday. Shannon represented the team in the girls 16/17 years medley relay, swimming the backstroke leg and Connor also swimming the backstroke in the boys 14/15 years medley relay. Cornwall competed in Division 2 and finished in 15th place.

Eight swimmers from Penzance Swimming Club recently competed in the South West Regional Championships. Connor Keeler, Shannon O’Connell and George Hollis competed in the Youth Regional Championships which was held at the Plymouth Life Centre. Murray Stevenson, Molly Haines, Thomas Morice, Fletcher Stevenson and Aaron Stevens all qualified for the Age Group Championships and this was their first experience of competing individually at regional level for the club. The Age Group Championships were held over two weekends, the first at Hengrove Leisure Centre in Bristol and the second at Millfield School in Somerset. Outstanding individual performances were achieved by both Aaron Stevens and Connor Keeler. Aaron, competing in the Age Group Championships, produced an excellent swim in the boys 14 years 50m breaststroke to finish 6th in the heats and qualify for the final, in which he finished in 8th position. In the 100m breaststroke, Aaron finished in 10th place, narrowly missing out on a finals place. Connor, competing in the Youth Championships, performed exceptionally well in the boys 15 years 200m backstroke, finishing in 9th place in the heat and gaining 4 positions in the final to finish in 5th place. In the 100m backstroke Connor finished in 9th place in the heats and retained the same position in the final. Also in the 400m Individual Medley, Connor put in an excellent performance to finish in 7th position. The level of competition was of a high standard and all of the Penzance swimmers performed exceptionally well and enjoyed the experience of competing at a higher level meet, amongst some of the best swimmers in the South West.

Swimmers who recently attended the Mark Foster Swimming Academy which took place at Carn Brea Leisure Centre. The day involved a 2 hour land training session, followed by a 2 hour pool session where the swimmers were coached by Mark Foster, 6 times World Champion and Katy Sexton MBE, World Champion Backstroker. The day also included a mindset and motivational talk and a question and answer session. It was good fun, relaxed, very informative and welcoming for both swimmers and parents. Everybody had a great day and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Well done to those who competed in the Newquay Cormorants Open Meet on Sunday. There was great swimming by everybody resulting in lots of personal best times and several swimmers winning medals.

Jodie Stephens and Emily Walker attended the SW water polo trials for U17 girls at Plymouth Life Centre. It was a two hour session consisting of one and a half hours of drills and half an hour of match play. It was a great experience and both girls thoroughly enjoyed it.

Penzance Swimming Club have gained promotion to Division 1 following the Cornwall County Junior Inter-Club Gala which was recently held at Penzance Leisure Centre. The Penzance team ( aged 9-12 years) put in a fantastic performance with great swims all round and were placed 1st in Division 2, winning the Julie Search Shield which was last won by the club in 2010. As a result the club will be competing in Division 1 next year. The results were Penzance: 169 points, St Austell: 120 points, Carn Brea & Helston B: 101 points and North Cornwall Dragons B: 59 points.
